Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about PDspect Inspection Software:

General

  1. Q: Who uses PDspect?
    A: PDspect is used by inspectors all across the United States and the world. It is in use in a variety of industries and can be customized to be used for almost any inspection process. It can be used for all types of building and building related inspections such as: Commercial inspections, residential inspections, residential construction phased inspections, individual system inspections (pool, roof, septic, etc) and more!

  2. Q: I'm just getting started, where do I go to learn more?
    A: If you've already purchased the software and are looking for more information about using the program, the best starting point will be our tutorials page. Here you'll find tons of videos that will walk you through every aspect of using the program.

  3. Q: Is it easy to use?
    A: Of course! PDspect is simple to learn and easy to use. You do not need to be a computer expert to be an expert at using PDspect.

  4. Q: How customizable is the program?
    A: PDspect is very customizable. Take what we have and make it yours.

  5. Q: Am I able to create my own forms?
    A: Yes! You have a lot of flexibility when it comes to creating forms. You can tweak the forms that come with the program to make them yours, or create a new form from the ground up.

Getting Started

  1. Q: How does the trial work? Does work I do with the trial carry over when I purchase the program?
    A: You are able to request a trial of the software to see how it works. The trial is fully functional in that you can use the software to conduct inspections, create reports, and you can even begin customizing the software as needed. Any changes you make with the trial version will carry over after you make a full purchase.

  2. Q: How do I get started?
    A: You can get started by purchasing online or by giving us a call and placing your order over the phone (888-736-2462).

  3. Q: After I place my order, when will I receive the software?
    A: If you place your order before 3:00 PM EDT on a normal business day, you will receive the software the same day (as long as we have a valid email address to send it to). If you place the order after 3:00 PM, or on a non-business day, you will receive it on the next business day.

Licensing/Pricing

  1. Q: How much does it cost?
    A: The cost of the software is based on and how many licenses you need. To get started with two licenses is $500/year.

  2. Q: How does licensing work?
    A: The software is licensed per device that it is installed on.

  1. Q: What is included with technical support? Where do I go if I need technical support?
    A: Phone and email support as well as software updates are included with PDspect support.

  2. Q: Where do I find the latest program updates?
    A: Any time a PC program update is available you will see a small box appear in the lower right corner of the main screen that you can click on to run the latest update. You will run updates to the PDspect app the same way you would any other app.

Hardware Related

  1. Q: What hardware can I use?
    A: You've got a ton of options with hardware. The software works on the iPhone/iPad, Android phones and tablets, as well as, Windows devices that run XP, 7, 8 or 10. These options give you the flexibility to choose whether you want a phone, tablet, or pc and what size device you want. With all of the options available you'll be able to find a great device to use.

  2. Q: What hardware is best?
    A: This is a common question and a tough one to answer. Everyone is different and so what works great for one person may not be a good option for another. We recommend going with a piece of hardware you're familiar with, and if this is all new to you, you can always give us a call to talk through what you're looking for and we can help make a recommendation.

  3. Q: What operating systems is PDspect compatible with?
    A: PDspect will run on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 devices. The PDspect app runs on the iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets.

App

  1. Q: How do I install the PDspect app to my mobile device?
    A: On your mobile device, open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for 'PDspect'. From here you can download and install the app.

  2. Q: Do you recommend an iPhone/iPad or Android devices?
    A: The app is going to run the same on both types of devices. The key will be to find a device that works best for you and the way you inspect.

  3. Q: What is the cloud drive? Does it cost extra?
    A: The PDspect cloud drive is online storage where you can store files. It is not designed to be used as permanent storage, but to send files back and forth between various devices. You will use the cloud drive to move inspections, libraries, and templates back and forth. All you need is an internet/data connection and you can access your cloud from any device that has the software installed on it.

  4. Q: Can I take pictures with my device and have them added into the report?
    A: Yes! You have the option to take a picture on any line item in the report and the photo will be instantly added into the inspection file.

  5. Q: How do I move files from my phone/tablet to my desktop/laptop?
    A: You will use your PDspect cloud drive to move files back and forth.

  6. Q: Do you have to have an internet connection to use the app?
    A: No. You will need an internet connection to access your cloud drive, including downloading or uploading an inspection, but you don't need an internet connection to gather data for your inspection report.

  7. Q: Does voice recognition work with the app?
    A: The software does not come with any built-in voice recognition capabilities, but most smartphones and tablets do. This means you can use the voice recognition capabilities of your device with the software. The most common setup for this is having a microphone button on the device's keyboard that you can activate so that when you speak it will take what you say and turn it into text.

Windows PCs

  1. Q: How do I create my own template?
    A: There are two ways to create your own template. The first way is within the PDspect Inspector program. Here you can make simple changes to an existing template such as adding/deleting/renaming/reordering lines and categories. Simply make the changes and go to Tools -> Save As Template when finished to save the new template.

    If you are looking to create a new template from scratch or make extensive changes to an existing template, then you'll want to use our Inspection Designer program. This program gives you complete control over the forms and allows to you to create templates that work exactly how you want.

  2. Q: How do I transfer files between devices/computers?
    A: Files can easily be transferred wirelessly between computers using the PDspect cloud drive. For computers running a Windows OS, you can also transfer files via email, USB drives, and basically any other method you would normally use to move files.

  3. Q: How do I add pictures into reports?
    A: Adding pictures into reports is easy. If you are using a mobile iOS (iPhone or iPad) or Android device you can pull up your device's camera from within the PDspect program and the pictures are added directly into the report. On a Windows desktop/laptop/tablet pictures are added into the report using a simple drag and drop feature.

  4. Q: How do I create a PDF?
    A: You can create a PDF of an inspection report on any Windows desktop/laptop/tablet that is running the software. This is done by simply clicking the 'PDF' button on the menu bar from within the PDspect program. You can also create PDFs of reports on an iPhone/iPad or Android device.
